Yesterday state leaders have formally adopted Doha Political Declaration from the second UN World Social Summit (WSSD2). Today morning, inauguration has happened for two-day civil society forum. Roberto Bisso of Social Watch and others has spoken. I am giving photos and a slide photo on how social issues derived from different UN declarations.
Doha Political Decelerations is not much new, but the new inclusions are, (i) addressing growing inequalities within the state and intra sate, (ii) addressing digital divide harnessing AI, (iii) giving emphasis poverty alleviation, creation of decent employment, managing climate change and sustainable future. Doha political declaration reaffirm commitment to SDGs and urge for regirious effort. It’s also emphasized and reaffirm multilateralism and role of UN in its 80th anniversary.
More than 2000 civil society delegates have participated in WSSD2 from around more than 800 organization, yesterday I meet Bangladesh delegation facilitated by Ambassador in Qatar, our Deputy Secretary Sarwar (who have had worked in Rohingya camp, now working as Deputy Secretary in Cabinet division, he is from Moheskhali). He is organizing a side event on social security. I found them very active and courtesies.
Amina J Mahmud the Deputy Secretary General and others give emphasize in pivotal role of civil society for accountability mobilization in countries especially in local level.
Whole WSSD2 premise seems jubilant as we got the news of Zohran Mamdani’s won as Mayor for New York city. Let’s down all anti-immigrant and ultra-selfish nationalistic rhetoric. Let’s revive the hope for Democratic Socialism i.e. affordability and distribution based on justice.
